As a child growing up in London, Ann suffered from asthma and spent a lot of time in bed. Since there was no television, she passed the time reading books and looking out the window. During World War II she was evacuated to Wales, where she learned to love poetry. Upon returning to London, Ann studied dance and drama, receiving a bronze, silver and gold medal from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. At the age of thirteen Ann became a professional actor and toured and performed in repertory companies throughout Britain. Later, after moving to the United States, she continued acting, performing at the Totem Pole Playhouse in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and touring with the Tadpole Players Childrens Theater. Ann now resides in Boonsboro, Maryland, where each spring and summer she provides sanctuary for dozens of grateful birds.
